The Main Drug Enforcement Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has successfully intercepted a major smuggling attempt, removing 43 kilograms of narcotics from illegal circulation in Azerbaijan.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the ministry, the operation was carried out across the Astara and Garadagh districts. During the special measures, law enforcement officers detained Ali Mammadov, Ravan Huseynov, and Ilkin Ahmadov, all of whom have prior criminal records for murder and theft. Upon inspection, 43 kg 300 grams of marijuana enriched with harmful additives were discovered and seized.
The detained individuals confessed to entering into a criminal conspiracy with Iranian citizens, whose identities are currently being investigated. They stated that they acquired the drugs from border regions with the intent to distribute them to various locations for financial gain. A criminal case has been initiated, and a court order has placed the suspects under pretrial detention.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan continues to intensify its efforts against international drug trafficking, particularly along the southern borders. Azerbaijan serves as a key transit point for various international transport corridors, making the fight against the illegal transit of narcotics a top priority for national security. Over the past year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Service have significantly increased surveillance and operational activities to prevent the flow of illicit substances into the country.
