On June 2, an incident was recorded during an election campaign in the city of Masis, Armenia.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, supporters of the opposition "Strong Armenia" bloc, led by Russian-based businessman Samvel Karapetyan, were subjected to an attack. Footage of the event has circulated widely on social media platforms.
The video footage shows a group of individuals physically assaulting people carrying the opposition bloc's flags and symbols, with reports indicating that both a man and a woman were beaten during the altercation.
Kima Avdalyan, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Armenia, confirmed that a criminal case has been initiated based on two separate reports received regarding the incident.
According to the official, the investigation is being conducted under charges related to physical violence, hooliganism, and obstruction of the election campaign by a group of individuals. However, the Investigative Committee's statement did not disclose the political affiliation of the individuals responsible for the attack.
It should be noted that the pre-election campaign in Armenia is scheduled to conclude this week, with the elections set to take place on June 7. Such incidents often raise concerns regarding the security and fairness of the electoral process in the country, highlighting the tense political atmosphere leading up to the vote.
