US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick has admitted to visiting the private island of late American financier Jeffrey Epstein with his family, according to official reports.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing The New York Times (NYT), reports that during hearings in the US Senate, Lutnick confirmed he met with Epstein years after he had previously claimed to have severed ties with him. The Secretary stated that during a family yacht vacation in 2012, he, along with his wife, children, and nannies, had lunch on the controversial billionaire's private island.
The timing of the visit has drawn significant scrutiny, as the meeting took place four years after Epstein reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors in 2008 regarding charges of soliciting minors. This admission comes as US President Donald Trump's administration continues its work in Washington, with cabinet members facing rigorous oversight regarding past associations. Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019, was a central figure in a high-profile international scandal involving sex trafficking and federal crimes, leading to ongoing investigations into his global network of associates.
