President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to provide one-time financial assistance to participants of the Second World War of 1941–1945, widows of deceased soldiers, and individuals awarded orders and medals for selfless labor on the home front. The decree is issued in connection with the upcoming May 9 Victory Day celebrations in Azerbaijan.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the decree stipulates a one-time payment of 2,750 manats to WWII participants. Additionally, a payment of 1,500 manats will be granted to widows of fallen or deceased combatants, home front workers, and individuals who performed special tasks for the army and navy during the war. This also includes those awarded medals for the defense of Leningrad and survivors of the Leningrad blockade. To fund these payments, 3 million manats will be allocated from the President's Reserve Fund as provided in the 2026 state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan made a significant contribution to the victory over fascism during the Second World War. More than 600,000 Azerbaijanis were sent to the front lines, with nearly half of them losing their lives in the conflict. Furthermore, Azerbaijani oil played a decisive role in the war effort, providing over 70 percent of the fuel used by the Soviet army. Every year, the government of Azerbaijan provides social support and financial benefits to veterans to honor their bravery and sacrifice.
