High-ranking officials from the US administration have provided details regarding US President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to the 52nd G7 summit, which will be held in Evian-les-Bains, France.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Trump is expected to depart from the White House on June 15. During the summit, he is scheduled to discuss topics of global significance, including economic growth, supply chain resilience, illegal migration, and the development of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, it has been noted that the US leader will hold bilateral meetings with the heads of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to assess the situation in the Middle East. Addressing questions regarding ongoing peace negotiations between the US and Iran, officials described the process as moving in a "very strong and positive" direction, though they cautioned that it is currently difficult to provide a precise timeline for a final agreement.
According to the officials, one of the most critical topics on the summit agenda will be the demining of the Strait of Hormuz. Sources outlining plans in this direction stated:
"Iran will open the Strait of Hormuz without collecting transit fees, and in response, we will lift the blockade we have imposed. The next phase is clearing the strait of mines. We can undertake this work, but G7 countries also have significant opportunities to voluntarily join this process."
Touching upon the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara, the officials noted that issues regarding burden-sharing within the alliance would be discussed extensively. They emphasized the necessity of updating NATO to meet 21st-century requirements, adding that while they are satisfied with the current burden-sharing process, further progress is required.
The G7, or Group of Seven, is an intergovernmental political forum consisting of seven of the world's largest advanced economies. It serves as a platform for coordinating global economic policy and addressing international security challenges. President Donald Trump is scheduled to return to the United States on June 17, following the conclusion of the summit.
