Tehran: Xameneinin ölümü siyasi sistemi dəyişməyəcək

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that despite the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, there is no possibility of the country's existing political system collapsing.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Tasnim news agency, the minister made this official statement regarding the stability of the Islamic Republic's governance following recent escalations.

Is the Iranian regime facing a threat of collapse?

Araghchi stated that despite the killing of both Khamenei and high-ranking commanders, Iran still manages to stand against one of the world's largest militaries. According to him, the strong responses provided demonstrate that the current system possesses a deep-rooted and solid structure. This structure, he emphasized, does not suffer disintegration due to the departure of individual figures.

Why are US bases considered legitimate targets?

The head of the MFA emphasized that Iran is on the rightful side in the current conflict. Official Tehran has attempted the path of negotiations to prevent war and maintain peace in the region. He noted that if a war is initiated by Washington, this confrontation will not remain exclusively between Iran and the United States.

The minister clarified the matter: "This is not because we want to expand the war, but because American military bases and facilities are scattered throughout the region." Araghchi added: "We do not have access to the US mainland, but we do have access to their military bases in the region. In our view, these bases are considered legitimate targets because they are both instruments for attacking Iran and belong to a country committing aggression against us."

Chronology of the conflict: Events of February 28

It should be recalled that the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28, conducting airstrikes on the republic's cities. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of these attacks on that day. In response, Iran launched missiles at Israeli territory. Additionally, Iranian forces attacked fourteen US military bases located in Persian Gulf countries.

Due to the tense situation in the Middle East, several countries in the region have temporarily closed their airspace. This escalation follows months of heightened regional friction, marking one of the most significant shifts in Middle Eastern geopolitics in decades. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely as US President Donald Trump oversees the American military response in the region.
