A US Federal Court has issued a reprimand to US President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice, dismissing a $10 billion lawsuit filed by the President and his family against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as unjust.

According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", citing The Wall Street Journal, Judge Kathleen Williams ruled that the lawsuit was an attempt to legitimize an "unprecedented" agreement that granted immunity to the President's associates.

US President Donald Trump filed the lawsuit against his own administration in January, seeking compensation for reputational and financial damages allegedly caused by the leaking of his tax returns to journalists. In May, the President signed a settlement agreement in which White House structures committed to establishing a $1.8 billion "Fund for Combating the Use of Government Agencies as Weapons," while also agreeing to halt all ongoing tax audits against Trump, his family, and his companies.

Although the administration later abandoned the fund under pressure from lawmakers, the provision halting tax audits on the President's businesses remained in effect. Judge Williams stated that this provision violates US tax law, which prohibits officials from interfering in audits. Furthermore, she prohibited Trump from referring to the agreement as a "settlement" in official proceedings.

The judge also criticized the Department of Justice for its inaction throughout the legal process, noting that the government failed to respond effectively to Trump's claims. The US government had strong legal arguments, including the expiration of the statute of limitations regarding the data leak and the fact that the perpetrator—contractor Charles Littlejohn, who leaked the tax returns—was not an official IRS employee. Williams noted that Trump appeared to be effectively controlling both sides of the case, directing both his own lawyers and the government.

The US Department of Justice has labeled the judge's decisions as biased. Representatives for Donald Trump maintained that the lawsuit was aimed solely at protecting confidential information.

The US judicial system, a cornerstone of American democracy, frequently adjudicates complex disputes involving the executive branch, ensuring that administrative actions remain within the bounds of federal law and constitutional authority.
