The United States has demanded concrete plans from its NATO allies to ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Bloomberg, that Washington has requested its allies within the alliance to submit specific commitments in the coming days regarding their contributions to maritime security in the region.

According to sources within the alliance, despite various ceasefire announcements, the security situation remains volatile. Reports indicate that the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively restricted following a series of strikes involving regional actors, raising significant questions about whether US allies will be able to provide the required strategic plans within the requested timeframe.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital oil transit chokepoints, linking crude producers in the Middle East with key markets across the globe. Approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes through this narrow waterway daily. Given its strategic importance, any disruption to shipping in the strait can lead to significant volatility in global energy prices and impact international trade stability. The current push by US President Donald Trump's administration underscores the priority of maintaining open sea lanes and ensuring the collective defense of global maritime commerce under the NATO framework.
