Sergen Yalcin has stepped down from his position as head coach of the Turkish football club Besiktas following a high-level meeting with club president Serdal Adali.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing information from TRT Haber, that the experienced specialist and the club management reached a mutual agreement to part ways following the critical meeting.
The resignation comes after a season where Besiktas finished 4th in the Turkish Super League and was eliminated in the semi-final stage of the Turkish Cup, which had been identified as a primary objective for the team. An official statement regarding the departure is expected to be released by the club later today. Following these developments, it is also anticipated that football coordinator Serkan Recber will leave his post.
Besiktas, one of the most successful and historic clubs in Turkish football, has faced significant pressure to return to the top of the standings. Sergen Yalcin, a legendary former player for the club, previously led the "Black Eagles" to a domestic double, winning both the Super League and the Turkish Cup during the 2020-2021 season. This restructuring marks a new phase for the Istanbul-based club as it seeks to reorganize its technical staff for the upcoming campaign.
