Iran has announced the downing of an MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the western part of the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from the Iranian state news agency IRNA, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the drone was targeted and destroyed while flying over the city of Islamabad-e Gharb in the Kermanshah province.
The incident was recorded in the region's airspace according to local time. Authorities have not yet provided specific details regarding the origin of the drone or the purpose of its flight. Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a high-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft primarily used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
