A massive drone attack targeted 17 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as the airspace over the Black and Azov Seas, overnight. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, air defense systems successfully neutralized a total of 276 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The regions affected by the strikes included the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Penza, Rostov, Tula, Ulyanovsk, and Yaroslavl regions, as well as the Moscow region, Crimea, Tatarstan, Udmurtia, and the Krasnodar Territory.
The most severe consequences were reported in the city of Rostov-on-Don, where the attack resulted in the deaths of a married couple and left five others injured. Among the wounded, two individuals, including a teenager, are reported to be in critical condition. The strike caused damage to a multi-story residential building and ignited fires at private enterprises and warehouses.
In the Belgorod region, an attack on a commercial facility resulted in more than 10 injuries, with damage reported to residential homes and civilian infrastructure. Udmurtia's head, Alexander Brechalov, described the event as one of the largest drone attacks the region has faced, though preliminary reports indicate no casualties in that specific area.
Security measures have also been intensified in the direction of Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that three drones heading toward the capital were intercepted and destroyed by air defense forces. Emergency services remain active at the various impact sites to assess damage and provide assistance.
This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the increasing frequency and scale of long-range drone operations. Such large-scale aerial engagements have become a defining feature of the current geopolitical tensions, often targeting critical infrastructure and logistics hubs far from the immediate frontline.
