"Russia will utilize its entire arsenal of legal means to protect its interests should its frozen assets be confiscated by European nations," the Kremlin stated.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov issued this warning in response to ongoing discussions in the West regarding the potential seizure of Russian financial assets frozen following the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
"Russia will employ every available legal instrument to defend its interests and hold those responsible for making and implementing such decisions accountable," Peskov emphasized. He further characterized any such confiscation as an illegal act that would inevitably trigger significant legal consequences.
The issue of frozen Russian assets has become a focal point of international economic diplomacy. Since early 2022, Western nations have frozen approximately $300 billion in Russian central bank assets. While some Western officials argue these funds should be repurposed to support Ukraine's reconstruction, Moscow maintains that any seizure would constitute a violation of international law and property rights, potentially destabilizing the global financial system.
