Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the official Kremlin, reports that the Russian leader emphasized that Khamenei's activities in this responsible post require great courage and dedication at a time when the country faces external military pressures.
In his message, Putin expressed solidarity with Iran, noting that Russia will remain a reliable partner for the Islamic Republic. The letter states:
"I am confident that you will honorably continue your father's path and further unite the Iranian people in the face of difficult trials."
The transition of leadership in Iran comes at a critical juncture for regional geopolitics. As a key ally in the Middle East, Iran maintains deep economic and military ties with Russia, particularly in the energy and defense sectors. The Supreme Leader in Iran holds the highest authority in the country, overseeing the military, the judiciary, and the state media, while also setting the general direction of the nation's foreign and domestic policies.
Relations between Moscow and Tehran have intensified in recent years, with both nations seeking to strengthen a multipolar world order and counter Western sanctions. This diplomatic outreach underscores the strategic importance of the Moscow-Tehran axis in navigating contemporary international challenges and ensuring regional stability.
