President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their family members attended the inauguration of Islam Safarli Street in Baku on Wednesday following its extensive reconstruction.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Head of the Baku City Executive Power, Eldar Azizov, briefed the head of state and the First Lady on the completed works. The project involved the comprehensive landscaping of the area stretching from Azerbaijan Avenue to Mirzaagha Aliyev Street, including sections of Nigar Rafibeyli Street. The renovation covered a total length of 1,350 meters across eight intersecting streets, where water and sewage lines were completely renewed, and gas lines were moved underground. Furthermore, historical buildings dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries were restored, and new greenery and seating areas were installed to enhance the environment for residents and visitors.
The project significantly improves urban mobility by creating a direct pedestrian link from Fountains Square to Winter Park and Central Park. The conversion of former vehicular roads into pedestrian zones is expected to boost local commerce, providing new opportunities for shops, cafes, and restaurants in the heart of the capital. This initiative is a key component of Azerbaijan's broader urban development strategy, which focuses on modernizing Baku's social infrastructure while preserving its unique architectural heritage. By prioritizing micromobility and sustainable urban planning, the government continues to enhance the capital's status as a modern, accessible, and world-class city for both its citizens and international tourists.
