Prezident: Serbiyada elektrik stansiyasının tikintisi Azərbaycanın Avropaya əsas investisiya qoyuluşlarından biri olacaq

The construction of a power plant in Serbia will represent one of Azerbaijan's primary investments in Europe, marking a significant expansion of bilateral energy cooperation.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia, held with the participation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

"President Vucic mentioned the construction of the power plant. I believe this is an important indicator of how we are diversifying our cooperation in the energy sector. We started with gas cooperation, and now we are moving to the next stage—how to use this gas with maximum efficiency for both sides to convert it into the final product, electricity. This will be one of Azerbaijan's major investments in Europe in recent years. It also demonstrates a high level of mutual trust. Because you only invest when you trust the country and your partners with whom you have good relations. You know that under the wise leadership of Aleksandar Vucic, stability and development in Serbia will be an important factor for a long time," President Ilham Aliyev emphasized.

The strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Serbia has intensified in recent years, particularly within the framework of Europe's energy security. Azerbaijan, a key supplier of natural gas to the Western Balkans and wider Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor, is increasingly focusing on downstream projects and renewable energy initiatives abroad. This power plant project aligns with Azerbaijan's long-term economic strategy to transition from a raw material exporter to a provider of high-value energy solutions, while simultaneously strengthening its geopolitical footprint in Central and Eastern Europe.
