On August 31, President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Pezeshkian recalled his previous meetings and telephone conversations with the Azerbaijani head of state with satisfaction. He emphasized that the position taken by President Ilham Aliyev, the support demonstrated, the condolences offered, and the humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan during the challenging situation facing Iran are highly valued by the Iranian state and its people. He expressed his gratitude once again for this support.
Noting that there are excellent opportunities for the development of bilateral ties, the Iranian President stated that Tehran is interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan across all sectors. President Pezeshkian highlighted the fraternal and friendly nature of the relations between the two nations, adding that Iran intends to maintain positive relations with all neighboring countries.
In response, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan's assistance during the current circumstances is a testament to the fraternal bonds between the two nations. President Ilham Aliyev further stated that Azerbaijan advocates for the resolution of the situation surrounding Iran through peace and negotiations.
During the conversation, the leaders exchanged views on the prospects for developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in various fields.
This meeting in Bishkek underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional stability and bilateral ties between Baku and Tehran. Both nations share a significant border and historical, cultural, and religious links, making their cooperation a key factor in the geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus and the broader region.
