Azərbaycan Prezidenti: Normallaşma prosesi uğurla irəliləyir

The normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is progressing successfully, and the formal signing of a peace treaty is expected once certain legal requirements are met, President Ilham Aliyev said.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during an interview with a correspondent from the France 24 television channel in Munich. The head of state noted that Armenia is reportedly planning to hold a referendum, which would address existing legal obstacles to the final agreement.

"As far as I know, Armenia plans to hold a referendum. As soon as this happens, there will be no obstacles to the official signing of the peace treaty. However, I want to emphasize again that for Azerbaijan, peace has already been achieved," the President stated. He added that the normalization process is moving forward successfully and expressed hope for a formal peace once these legal procedures are finalized.

The negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have intensified following the restoration of Azerbaijan's full sovereignty over its territories. Baku has consistently advocated for a peace treaty based on the principles of international law, including mutual recognition of territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders. The potential referendum in Armenia is viewed as a necessary step to align its domestic legal framework, including constitutional provisions, with the requirements of a lasting peace agreement between the two South Caucasus nations.
