President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Suhail Al Mazrouei, on May 17.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the minister conveyed the greetings of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to the head of state. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked the minister to convey his own regards to the UAE leadership. During the meeting, Suhail Al Mazrouei congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, noting that the event provides a significant platform for discussing the global urban agenda.
The meeting highlighted the expanding strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE, particularly in the fields of economy, politics, and renewable energy. Azerbaijan has been actively positioning itself as a green energy hub in the region, with major UAE-based companies like Masdar playing a pivotal role in developing solar and wind power projects across Azerbaijan. This cooperation aligns with the country's broader strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and support global climate goals, following the successful hosting of major international summits in the capital.
