President Ilham Aliyev awards Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar

Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry Aziz Sancar has been awarded the 'Shohrat' (Glory) Order.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to this effect.

According to the decree, Aziz Sancar was awarded the 'Shohrat' Order in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the strengthening of international scientific and humanitarian cooperation involving Azerbaijan.

It is worth noting that the distinguished scientist will celebrate his 80th birthday tomorrow. Aziz Sancar, a Turkish-American biochemist and molecular biologist, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2015 for his mechanistic studies of DNA repair, a field that has significantly advanced global understanding of cancer treatment and genetic stability.
