On June 23, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited the liberated city of Fuzuli to inspect the destruction caused during the occupation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President in the liberated territories of the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, briefed the Turkmen President on the extensive destruction and acts of vandalism committed by Armenian armed forces during the 30-year occupation. He also outlined the ongoing and planned reconstruction projects aligned with the city's Master Plan.
It was noted that Fuzuli, once a densely populated and thriving city, was completely looted and devastated during the occupation. Following its liberation, a comprehensive Master Plan was developed and approved by the head of state. Fuzuli holds significant transport and logistics potential, situated at the intersection of key transport arteries connecting the Garabagh and East Zangazur economic regions. Under the Master Plan, which covers approximately 2,000 hectares, the city is projected to accommodate 50,000 residents by 2040, incorporating "Smart City" concepts.
The visiting delegation was also briefed on the construction of a mosque in Fuzuli, a project supported by Turkmenistan. The foundation for the mosque was laid by President Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and other heads of state and government during the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Gabala last October.
The mosque complex spans over one hectare and will feature two minarets, each 40 meters high, with a main dome reaching 30 meters. The facility is designed to accommodate 500 worshippers simultaneously.
The visit underscores the strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, particularly in the context of post-conflict reconstruction and regional development initiatives in the liberated territories.
