Prezident İlham Əliyev: Artıq 16 ölkəyə təbii qaz ixrac edirik və onların 10-u Avropa İttifaqının üzvüdür

President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to 16 countries, including 10 member states of the European Union. Speaking in an interview with Euronews television in Davos on January 20, the head of state emphasized Azerbaijan's growing role as a primary energy supplier in the region and beyond.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan is the only country in the South Caucasus possessing significant energy reserves and exporting them to neighboring nations. He noted that while Georgia has long imported Azerbaijani energy, Armenia has also begun doing so. "We have good relations with many European countries, and this is an opportunity for them to strengthen their energy security," the President stated, adding that Europe remains the most lucrative "premium market" for Azerbaijani gas, despite recent expansions into markets like Syria.

Azerbaijan's energy strategy is centered on the Southern Gas Corridor, a massive infrastructure project designed to transport Caspian gas to European markets. Since the start of commercial gas deliveries to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in late 2020, Baku has positioned itself as a crucial alternative to traditional energy sources, significantly contributing to the diversification of the EU's energy supply. The expansion of the export geography reflects Azerbaijan's strategic objective to double its gas exports to Europe by 2027, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed with the European Commission in 2022.
