President Ilham Aliyev has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, an honor bestowed by the United Arab Emirates-based Zayed Fund.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the official announcement was published on the Zayed Fund's website, highlighting the winners for the upcoming year.
According to the Zayed Fund, President Ilham Aliyev was selected for his pivotal role in the political process aimed at ending decades of conflict and humanitarian suffering in the Caucasus. Specifically, the award recognizes his contributions toward the initialing of the "Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia."
The independent international jury, comprised of renowned experts in the fields of dialogue and coexistence, determined the 2026 laureates. Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity and a member of the judging committee, stated that the committee placed special value on the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He noted that the document fully reflects the award's mission to promote a culture of dialogue and coexistence, marking a significant milestone for global peace.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an independent global award that recognizes individuals and entities of all backgrounds, anywhere in the world, who are working selflessly and tirelessly across divides to deliver liberty, focus, and impact for peaceful coexistence. Established in 2019, the award was inspired by the historic meeting in Abu Dhabi between His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, where they signed the Document on Human Fraternity.
The official presentation ceremony for the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is scheduled to take place on February 4 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
