Authorities in Beijing have activated a Level 2 flood emergency response plan in anticipation of torrential rainfall, which has significantly disrupted daily life in the Chinese capital.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the severe weather is a direct consequence of Typhoon Dolphin.
Meteorological officials have forecasted significant precipitation across most districts of Beijing, with estimates suggesting over 100 millimeters of rainfall within six hours and up to 150 millimeters within a 24-hour period. In response to these projections, the city has deployed drainage equipment and installed flood barriers to mitigate potential damage. Authorities have also initiated the evacuation of residents from high-risk areas to safer locations.
While the intensity of Typhoon Dolphin has begun to weaken, its impact continues to affect eastern and central China. Weather warnings remain in effect across several regions due to persistent heavy rain and strong winds. In the provinces of Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Fujian, which were directly in the path of the storm, more than one million people have been relocated to ensure public safety.
Typhoons are tropical cyclones that frequently impact China's coastal regions during the summer and autumn months.
