Paşinyan: Referendum gündəmdə deyil

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that there is currently no need to hold a referendum in Armenia regarding a choice between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Prime Minister emphasized that such a vote is not currently planned. "We do not intend to put this to a referendum at this time. It will only be held if an objective necessity arises," Pashinyan said, adding that the matter is one of "transformation rather than political taste." He further noted that Armenia remains a full member of the EAEU and respects its partners, with no immediate plans to withdraw from the organization.

These remarks come as a response to recent statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who suggested that the Armenian leadership might conduct a referendum to pursue EU membership. Armenia's foreign policy has faced increasing scrutiny as the country balances its traditional economic ties with Russia against a growing dialogue with Western institutions. The EAEU, a Moscow-led economic bloc, remains a primary trade partner for Armenia, while the government in Yerevan has recently sought to diversify its security and diplomatic partnerships amid shifting regional dynamics in the South Caucasus.
