At least nine workers have been killed and three others injured following a collapse at a marble mine in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday when a section of the mine gave way, trapping laborers under the debris. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the site to conduct search and rescue operations, and the injured have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, which remains unclear. Mining accidents are relatively frequent in Pakistan, often attributed to poor safety standards, lack of proper equipment, and insufficient regulatory oversight in the country's resource-rich northern regions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a major hub for marble and mineral extraction, contributing significantly to the national economy despite ongoing concerns regarding industrial safety protocols.
