The United Nations has reaffirmed its position that Israel's settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories constitute a clear violation of international law.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this statement was delivered by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, during a press briefing in New York.
Haq emphasized that the UN's stance on this issue remains unchanged. He noted that the expansion of settlements and the initiation of new construction projects in occupied territories are direct violations of international legal frameworks. According to the UN official, such activities significantly hinder the peace process in the region, exacerbate existing tensions, and undermine the viability of a two-state solution.
The issue of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has long been a focal point of international diplomacy. The United Nations and the broader international community consistently argue that these settlements impede the creation of a contiguous, independent Palestinian state, which remains the cornerstone of the internationally supported two-state solution framework for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
