The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has granted an extradition request from the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan regarding Zameddin Bafadar oglu Ibrahimov, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in accordance with the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters dated October 7, 2002.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that reasonable suspicions were established during a preliminary investigation conducted by the Sumgait Military Prosecutor's Office regarding Ibrahimov's involvement in fraudulent activities. Consequently, a decision was made to charge him as an accused person, and he was placed on an international wanted list after fleeing the investigation.
Zameddin Ibrahimov was detained on the territory of the Russian Federation and subsequently brought to Azerbaijan, escorted by a special convoy from the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice. This extradition highlights the ongoing legal cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in the field of criminal justice and the apprehension of fugitives across borders.
Extradition processes between the two nations are governed by bilateral and multilateral agreements aimed at ensuring that individuals accused of crimes cannot evade justice by crossing international boundaries. The Sumgait Military Prosecutor's Office will now proceed with the necessary investigative measures to bring the case to its legal conclusion within the judicial system of Azerbaijan.
