The 11th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has been held at the UNESCO headquarters. This information was provided to the "Operative Information Center-OMM" by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani delegation at the session was led by Minister of Culture Adil Karimli. In his address, the Minister highlighted the measures implemented by Azerbaijan to protect and promote its intangible cultural heritage, the representation of national heritage items on UNESCO lists, and the significance of international cooperation in this field.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has identified the protection of intangible cultural heritage as a key priority of its state policy and continues to maintain close cooperation with UNESCO in this area. During the session, participants discussed the implementation of the convention, the improvement of heritage protection mechanisms, and the development of international collaboration.
The 2003 UNESCO Convention is a landmark international treaty designed to safeguard intangible cultural heritage, which includes traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, and traditional craftsmanship. Azerbaijan, known for its rich cultural history, has consistently worked to ensure its unique traditions are recognized globally, viewing these efforts as essential for preserving national identity and fostering intercultural dialogue.
