The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan has issued a formal warning to citizens regarding fraudulent advertisements circulating on social media platforms. The ministry cautioned that cybercriminals are increasingly using deceptive marketing tactics to compromise personal and financial data.
According to information provided by the MIA to the Operative Information Center-OMM, these scams often feature "branded products at significantly low prices" to lure victims. The ministry noted that fraudsters exploit the names of well-known brands to gain trust, using phrases like "limited offer" or "last chance" to create a false sense of urgency. "Do not click on suspicious links, carefully check the address and reliability of the website, and only shop on trusted and well-known platforms," the ministry stated, adding that individuals who have already shared information should immediately contact their banks and law enforcement agencies.
This warning comes amid a global rise in phishing and social engineering attacks targeting online shoppers. In Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service have intensified efforts to combat cybercrime and raise public awareness about digital security. Authorities emphasize that legitimate businesses rarely request sensitive banking information through unofficial social media channels or unverified links.
