The Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with preparing and submitting proposals for the "National Strategy for Improving Solid Waste Management for 2027–2030" to President Ilham Aliyev within five months.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this directive is part of a decree signed by the head of state regarding additional measures to enhance waste management systems in Azerbaijan. According to the decree, the new National Strategy will be closely integrated with the broader "Social-Economic Development Strategy for 2027–2030" to ensure sustainable urban growth.
The initiative reflects Azerbaijan's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and the "Green World Solidarity Year" goals. By modernizing waste infrastructure and implementing advanced recycling technologies, the government aims to reduce the ecological footprint of major urban centers including Baku, Ganja, and Sumgait. This strategic framework is expected to introduce revolutionary changes in how household waste is collected, processed, and utilized as a resource, aligning the country's environmental standards with international best practices.
