Mazahir Panahov has been re-elected as the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The decision was finalized during the commission's latest meeting held in Baku, where members voted to confirm his leadership for the upcoming term.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the proposal to re-elect Panahov was put to a vote and unanimously accepted by the commission members. Expressing his gratitude for the continued trust, Panahov highlighted the importance of maintaining a rigorous approach to electoral management amidst evolving global political dynamics. "As a country pursues a stronger policy, the number of those who oppose it also increases. We must organize our work with this in mind," the chairman stated. He further noted that Azerbaijan's election infrastructure comprises more than 30,000 commission members and emphasized that all necessary conditions have been established by the state for their effective operation.
The Central Election Commission is the supreme body responsible for the organization and conduct of elections and referendums in Azerbaijan. Mazahir Panahov, a professor and doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, has led the commission since 2000. Under his tenure, the CEC has overseen numerous presidential, parliamentary, and municipal elections, focusing on the modernization of the electoral process, including the implementation of webcams at polling stations and the digitalization of voter registration systems to ensure transparency and efficiency.
