The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to citizens visiting water bodies across the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ministry's statement emphasizes the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations to prevent accidents.
"Currently, hot weather conditions are being observed across the country, including in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, with high temperatures expected to persist through Sunday. During such weather, particularly on weekends, citizens frequently flock to water bodies for recreation. Regrettably, failure to follow appropriate safety protocols by some individuals often leads to tragic consequences," the statement noted.
The ministry further highlighted that swimming in areas not designated for such activities—including canals, rivers, irrigation ditches, and other unauthorized water bodies—is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, swimming beyond marked boundaries, as well as entering designated beach zones with unauthorized boats or small vessels, is forbidden.
The ministry also provided specific safety guidelines: children must never be left unattended at beaches; warning signs and placards must be respected; and the instructions of lifeguards must be followed without exception. Additionally, the ministry warned that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight is dangerous, and entering the water after dark poses significant risks.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations is the primary government body in Azerbaijan responsible for civil defense, fire safety, and disaster response. Its periodic public awareness campaigns are a standard preventive measure aimed at reducing drowning incidents and ensuring public safety during the peak summer season.
