French President Emmanuel Macron has announced his intention to hold a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss the escalating situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Macron made these remarks during a press conference in Yerevan. "I intend to speak with the Iranian president. Our position regarding the situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains unchanged," the French leader noted.

President Macron emphasized that France calls for the cessation of hostilities and the commencement of diplomatic negotiations to ensure regional stability. "The strait must remain open for the passage of all vessels without any fees. Any escalation or unilateral strikes against tankers, container ships, or third countries is a mistake that would ignite war," he stated.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Located between Oman and Iran, it connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. In recent years, the waterway has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions, with frequent incidents involving the seizure of commercial vessels and threats to global energy security. This upcoming dialogue follows Masoud Pezeshkian's recent election as Iran's president, signaling a potential shift in Tehran's diplomatic engagement with Western powers regarding maritime security and international sanctions.
