Macarıstanın yeni baş naziri Peter Magyar kimdir?

Peter Magyar has secured a historic victory in the 2026 parliamentary elections, defeating long-time Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and ending more than a decade of dominance by the Fidesz party, signaling a major shift in the country's political landscape.

The 45-year-old Magyar was born into a prominent political family in Budapest. His grandfather, Ferenc Madl, served as the President of Hungary from 2000 to 2005. For over two decades, Magyar operated within political and diplomatic circles closely associated with Fidesz. During this period, he met his former wife, Judit Varga, who served as the Minister of Justice from 2019 to 2023. The couple lived and worked in Brussels for several years before his transition into opposition politics.

Magyar's political trajectory shifted dramatically in 2023 following his divorce from Varga, after which he severed ties with Fidesz while accusing the government of systemic corruption and state-led propaganda. This break followed a major political scandal involving a controversial pardon in a child abuse case, which led to the resignation of President Katalin Novak. Stepping into independent politics in early 2024, Magyar founded the Tisza party, which gained rapid momentum by securing approximately 30% of the vote in the 2024 European Parliament elections, where he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).

While Magyar advocates for closer ties with the European Union, he maintains a pragmatic approach regarding relations with Russia. He has pledged to unlock European Union funds previously frozen due to rule-of-law concerns and aims to revitalize the Hungarian economy following a period of stagnation. This political transition in Hungary is being closely watched in Baku and other international capitals, as it may redefine Hungary's role within both the EU and regional diplomatic frameworks.
