Kyrgyzstan has officially suspended the activities of its embassy in Iran, citing security considerations. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing local media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan issued a formal statement regarding the freeze of its diplomatic mission's operations in Tehran.
"At the same time, the MFA of Kyrgyzstan advises citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran. In case of emergencies or the need for consular and legal assistance, citizens should contact the MFA's Consular Department hotline or Kyrgyzstan's diplomatic missions in states bordering Iran," the official statement noted. The ministry further urged Kyrgyz nationals currently in Iran to maintain a high level of vigilance, strictly adhere to security measures, avoid mass gatherings, and unconditionally follow the instructions of local authorities.
This diplomatic move comes amid heightened regional tensions and a shifting security landscape in the Middle East. Kyrgyzstan, like many Central Asian nations, maintains a cautious foreign policy, prioritizing the safety of its diplomatic staff and citizens abroad. The suspension of embassy operations is a significant diplomatic step, often utilized when a state perceives an imminent risk or when operational conditions no longer meet international safety standards for diplomatic personnel.
