Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III’s scheduled visit to the United States will proceed as planned, despite a recent security incident in Washington.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Palace issued an official statement confirming that the itinerary remains unchanged. The decision follows a shooting incident at a dinner attended by US President Donald Trump and members of his administration, which officials stated would not affect the royal program.
The visit, beginning April 27, is set against a backdrop of diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties between the United Kingdom and the United States. The schedule includes a private meeting and tea between King Charles III, Queen Camilla, US President Donald Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump. Following this, the royal couple will host a garden reception at the British Ambassador’s residence in Washington, an event with historical significance as the last such reception was held in 1939 during the reign of King George VI.
A major highlight of the trip will occur on Tuesday, when the royal couple receives an official welcome at the White House. King Charles III is also scheduled to deliver an address to the US Congress, marking only the second time in history a British monarch has done so, following Queen Elizabeth II’s address in 1991. On the evening of April 28, US President Donald Trump will host a formal state dinner in honor of the visiting monarchs. The comprehensive tour also includes a visit to the September 11 Memorial in New York and a stop at the Virginia National Forest.
This visit underscores the enduring nature of the "Special Relationship" between the two nations, focusing on bilateral cooperation, historical ties, and shared environmental goals. Despite the security concerns raised by the recent incident, both London and Washington have signaled their commitment to maintaining the high-level diplomatic exchange as planned.
