Despite France's elimination in the semi-finals, Mbappe solidified his achievement by scoring two goals in the third-place play-off match against England, ultimately claiming the title of the tournament's most prolific scorer. It was noted that with this performance, Mbappe has surpassed Lionel Messi in the total number of goals scored in World Cup history; the French star now holds 22 goals, while the Argentine legend has 21.
