The Italian Football Federation is planning a radical move to end the national team's consecutive failures on the international stage.
"Operative Information Center-OMM", citing "La Gazzetta dello Sport", reports that the federation intends to bring one of the world's most decorated coaches to lead the national squad.
The target is Josep Guardiola, who currently manages the English Premier League club "Manchester City".
The famous Catalan specialist's contract with the English side is set to expire this summer. Italian football officials believe that his leadership is the key to returning the four-time world champions to the pinnacle of international football.
It should be noted that the Italian national team has undergone two coaching changes within the last year, involving:
- Luciano Spalletti
- Gennaro Gattuso
Despite these efforts, the team has faced significant setbacks, most notably failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the third consecutive time. Italy, traditionally a powerhouse in global football with four World Cup titles (1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006), has struggled to maintain its elite status in recent years, leading to calls for a complete overhaul of the technical staff. The potential acquisition of Guardiola is seen as a transformative step to modernize the team's tactical approach and restore its competitive edge in European and global competitions.
