Tensions in EU-US relations could strengthen cooperation between Europe and BRICS

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Chinese historian Jiang Xueqin discussed the United States' position in international politics and its consequences during the "Greater Eurasia" podcast on political scientist Glenn Diesen's YouTube channel.

Jiang Xueqin stated that the United States is no longer "consensus-oriented" and "does not care about multipolarity." Therefore, in his view, if "middle powers" wish to survive, they must "naturally create a rules-based order." The historian added that China is "primarily focused on multipolarity" and mutually beneficial cooperation.

He emphasized that this approach could form the basis for cooperation between Europe and BRICS: "BRICS and the idea of this union is a mutually beneficial cooperation where everyone is equal and there is no dominant force," Xueqin noted. These remarks come amid a shifting global landscape where US President Donald Trump has emphasized a more unilateral approach to foreign policy, prompting traditional allies and emerging economies to seek new strategic partnerships.

BRICS, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has recently expanded to include several new members, positioning itself as a representative of the Global South and an alternative to Western-led economic blocs. The group focuses on enhancing economic cooperation, reforming international financial institutions, and promoting a multipolar world order that challenges the traditional hegemony of Western powers in global governance.
