The Israeli government, following diplomatic engagement with the United States, has agreed to hold high-level negotiations with Lebanon in Washington next week.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Israel's Kan radio station, that the discussions will focus on establishing a sustainable ceasefire and the disarmament of Hezbollah units in the region.
According to sources, while Israel has agreed to the diplomatic track, it maintains its right to respond to any potential attacks from Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously announced that he had issued instructions to initiate direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible. Reports from Axios indicate that the meeting is expected to take place at the ambassadorial level in the U.S. capital.
The upcoming talks come at a pivotal moment for Middle Eastern security under the administration of US President Donald Trump. Washington has historically played a central role as a mediator in maritime and border disputes between Israel and Lebanon, two nations that remain technically at war. These negotiations are seen as a significant step toward de-escalating regional tensions and addressing the long-standing security concerns regarding non-state armed groups operating near Israel's northern border.
