At least four government officials have been arrested in the Iranian city of Babolsar on charges of espionage.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Tasnim News Agency, that the individuals were detained as part of a targeted security operation. According to the agency, while the suspects are accused of spying, specific details regarding the nature of the charges or the foreign entities involved have not yet been disclosed.

On March 15, Reza Radan, a high-ranking security official, announced that law enforcement agencies have arrested at least 500 individuals suspected of collaborating with "the enemy" since February 28. These widespread detentions reflect an intensified crackdown by Iranian security services against perceived internal threats and foreign intelligence networks operating within the country.

The city of Babolsar, located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, is a significant administrative and tourism hub in the Mazandaran Province. Espionage cases involving government employees in Iran often lead to closed-door trials in revolutionary courts, where charges related to national security carry severe legal consequences. This latest wave of arrests comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing efforts by Tehran to neutralize alleged infiltration by foreign intelligence agencies.
