Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has clarified Tehran's official position regarding rising regional tensions.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the IRNA agency, reports that the diplomat emphasized Iran is not seeking war or confrontation with any country.
The ambassador noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not act as the initiator of any war. However, he stated that a response would be inevitable should any military threat arise against the country's sovereignty:
“Iran supports stability in the region and has no intention of escalating tensions. If military aggression occurs, Iran will react in an adequate and decisive manner. Response measures will be within the framework of international law and proportionate to the threat.”
According to the permanent representative, provocative statements from other parties only serve to further destabilize the already tense situation in the region. He reaffirmed Iran's commitment to diplomatic solutions and negotiations conducted within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
Iravani's statements are viewed as an official message to the international community at a time of heightened geopolitical friction. Such diplomatic communications at the UN level are often utilized by regional powers to signal deterrence while maintaining a formal stance on international peace and security. The Middle East remains a focal point of global diplomacy, where Azerbaijan, as a neighbor to Iran, maintains a keen interest in regional stability and the adherence to principles of international law and territorial integrity.
