The delivery of crude oil to Japan has become increasingly critical due to disruptions in global supply routes, further elevating Azerbaijan's strategic role in energy security. This assessment was highlighted by President Ilham Aliyev during the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, as reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM.

The head of state noted that a strong history of partnership has been established between Azerbaijan and Japan across various sectors. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the potential for expanding cooperation beyond the energy sector, specifically highlighting opportunities in the defense industry and the possibility of establishing joint ventures.

"While project activity has been lower and diplomatic contacts between our countries have been limited over the past 5-6 years, particularly following the Second Garabagh War, significant potential remains. I believe that increased engagement between government officials, business circles, and companies is essential. Through such interaction, we will be able to identify additional advantages of our cooperation," President Ilham Aliyev added.

Azerbaijan and Japan have maintained diplomatic relations since 1992, with Japan being one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence. Historically, the relationship has been anchored in energy cooperation, with Japanese companies participating in major oil and gas projects in the Caspian Sea. The Shusha Global Media Forum, where these remarks were made, serves as a significant international platform for discussing global media trends and geopolitical developments, bringing together journalists, experts, and officials from around the world to the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
