President Ilham Aliyev has emphasized that urban planning is a priority for the Republic of Azerbaijan, stating that the government works on these issues on a daily basis for Baku and other cities across the country.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state made these remarks during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). President Ilham Aliyev also noted that the current year has been officially declared the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture" in Azerbaijan, highlighting the government's commitment to modernizing national infrastructure and architectural standards.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, serves as the premier global platform for discussing sustainable urbanization and the challenges of rapid urban growth. Azerbaijan's active involvement in such international forums reflects its ongoing large-scale reconstruction initiatives, particularly the "Great Return" program. This program focuses on building modern, sustainable settlements in the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangazur, utilizing "smart city" and "smart village" concepts to ensure high living standards for returning citizens.
