President Ilham Aliyev meets with Uzbek President in Baku

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 18.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state expressed his gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for participating in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum in Baku. President Ilham Aliyev noted that the presence of the Uzbek President is a clear testament to the fraternal and friendly relations existing between the two nations and their peoples.

Recalling their previous meetings, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the joint projects discussed during those encounters are being successfully implemented. The head of state also highlighted the ongoing construction of an Uzbekistan-themed park in Baku as a symbol of their close ties. Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on hosting the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum, noting that the event provides a vital global platform for discussing urban development issues.

The President of Uzbekistan expressed his admiration for the rapid development he witnesses during every visit to Azerbaijan. He particularly lauded the large-scale reconstruction efforts in Garabagh, where new cities and villages are being established under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Shavkat Mirziyoyev characterized these achievements and the victory in the Patriotic War as a result of the Azerbaijani President's dedication to his country and people.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked his counterpart for the kind words and specifically acknowledged Uzbekistan's support in the restoration of Garabagh. He noted that the Mirza Ulugbek Secondary School No. 1, built by Uzbekistan in Fuzuli, was the first gift received during the restoration process, describing it as an embodiment of brotherhood and solidarity. During the meeting, the leaders reviewed economic projects in energy, mining, agriculture, mechanical engineering, and pharmaceuticals, expressing satisfaction with their progress and reaffirming the strategic alliance between the two countries.

The World Urban Forum (WUF), established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. By hosting the 13th session, Azerbaijan continues to solidify its role as a diplomatic hub for international cooperation. The partnership between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan has reached the level of a strategic alliance in recent years, characterized by deep cultural ties and increasing trade turnover, particularly in the restoration of territories liberated from occupation.
