Azerbaijan has always attached great importance to security issues, President Ilham Aliyev said during the opening ceremony of the XIII Global Baku Forum.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to regional stability and the ongoing peace process. Reflecting on the historical context, the President reminded the audience that Azerbaijani territories remained under occupation for 30 years. "Our conflict lasted for more than 30 years. However, we have been living in peace for seven months now," he noted, highlighting the shift toward a new era in the South Caucasus.
President Ilham Aliyev further underscored that during the years of occupation, Azerbaijan did not receive the necessary support from the international community to restore its territorial integrity. Despite this, he pointed out that the current positive dynamics between Armenia and Azerbaijan present a rare opportunity for the region. "The positive dynamics we have achieved in reaching peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a very unique case," the President stated.
The Global Baku Forum, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, has become a premier platform for world leaders, Nobel laureates, and international experts to discuss pressing global challenges. This year's forum focuses on the evolving global order and regional security, underscoring Azerbaijan's growing role as a mediator and a key player in ensuring energy and transport security between Europe and Asia. The event serves as a critical venue for addressing the geopolitical shifts following the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Garabagh region.
