Five personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF) have been killed following the crash of an An-32 military transport aircraft at the Jorhat airbase in India.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the incident occurred during a scheduled flight operation. The Indian Air Force confirmed the casualties in an official statement.

Earlier reports from The Times of India, citing the Indian Ministry of Defense, indicated that the aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Jorhat facility. A spokesperson for the Ministry stated that authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the incident.

Emergency response teams have initiated efforts to extinguish the fire resulting from the crash, and a special commission has been established to investigate the technical and operational causes of the accident.

The An-32 is a twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft of Soviet design, which has served as a workhorse for the Indian Air Force for several decades. These aircraft are frequently utilized for logistics and transport operations across India's diverse and challenging terrain, including mountainous regions.
