The Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued an urgent appeal to road users in Azerbaijan regarding a recent increase in pedestrian-related traffic accidents.

According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the department emphasized that an analysis of recent incidents reveals several dangerous trends. "The recorded events once again prove that many pedestrians still ignore traffic rules, maintain the habit of crossing roads in unauthorized areas, use headphones, or engage in other distracting activities that make them forget they are in a high-risk zone. In short, indifference to the simplest safety rules remains one of the primary causes of tragedies on our roads," the statement said.

The department further stressed that the road is a shared space where every participant must adhere to established norms. "In this environment where rules apply to everyone, any road user, including a pedestrian who considers themselves outside general behavioral norms, can become a potential victim of a tragedy," the MIA department added, reminding citizens that their most vital duty is to use designated crossings and remain vigilant.

In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department regularly conducts awareness campaigns and monitoring to reduce road fatalities and improve traffic culture. Under the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, pedestrians are required to use designated overpasses and underpasses where available, with administrative measures and fines implemented for violations. These efforts are part of a broader state strategy to enhance road infrastructure and ensure the safety of all citizens in Baku and the regions.
