The Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a warning to motorists regarding upcoming adverse weather conditions across Azerbaijan.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the department.
According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, unstable weather is expected from August 27 to 30 in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, as well as in several other regions of the country. Forecasts indicate strong winds and precipitation, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail likely in certain mountainous and foothill areas. Authorities have also warned of potential water level increases in rivers and the risk of short-term flash floods.
In light of these conditions, the Main State Traffic Police Department is urging all road users to exercise heightened caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents.
"Drivers are advised to adjust their speed to suit road and weather conditions, increase following distances, avoid sudden maneuvers, and exercise extreme caution when overtaking. In conditions of limited visibility, vehicle lighting must be used correctly, and drivers should avoid risky maneuvers when crossing road sections prone to flooding or flash floods," the statement read.
The department emphasized that drivers of high-sided, towed, or long-haul vehicles should be particularly vigilant in areas with strong winds, ensuring that cargo is securely fastened and vehicle stability is maintained. Pedestrians are also advised to be cautious, as visibility may be reduced due to rain and wind, and they should only cross roads at designated locations after ensuring it is safe to do so.
The Main State Traffic Police Department continues to call on all road users to assess the changing weather conditions responsibly and to prioritize safety while traveling.
