France has established stringent conditions for the United Kingdom to participate in European Union (EU) military contracts related to Ukraine, requiring London to provide significant financial contributions in exchange for access.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing The Telegraph, that Paris is demanding large-scale investments into the bloc's military projects. The primary objective of the French government is to ensure that available funds are directed toward the development of the EU's internal arms industry.

Diplomatic sources indicate that France is insisting on the highest possible financial commitment from the UK for its involvement. Currently, EU member states are deliberating the terms under which non-bloc nations can secure contracts within a 90-billion-euro loan framework designated for Ukraine. France has previously blocked British participation in similar initiatives, emphasizing a strategy that prioritizes the strengthening of the Union's domestic defense capabilities.

This development comes amid broader discussions regarding European strategic autonomy and the role of third-party nations in EU-led security initiatives. Since the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union, defense cooperation has remained a complex issue, with Paris often advocating for "European-made" solutions to bolster the continent's industrial base while supporting Ukraine's defense against ongoing aggression. The move underscores the ongoing tension between inclusive security partnerships and the protection of the EU's internal market interests.
